SIMPLIFIED

By Shaira Adila

I keep you in my heart and my heart

In your mouth. That way

Your mouth bleeds, all ripe and red, a fruit

Waiting to be bitten. And I am your slave

Day in day out, unashamed

And unconjugated, reduced

To juvenile poetry.

I keep you in my heart

And my heart in your mouth. That way

Whenever I have a need for my heart

I can simply ask for a kiss.

And your mouth will bleed a river into my mouth

My blood, warm and sweet,

Tumbling between our tongues

Meeting in the middle.
